Intangible heritage craft from China -Gambiered Canton gauze (Xiangyun silk)

Gambiered Canton gauze (Xiangyun silk) crafted from 100% mulberry silk and dyed with pure plant extracts, originated in the Song Dynasty, is the silk fabric dyed with vegetable dye potato, is the only silk fabric dyed with pure vegetable dye in the world textile, known as "soft gold" in the textile industry, the folk have "a pound of gauze is worth a pound of gold".

Fragrant cloud yarn production process is unique, it needs to be steamed 3 times, cooked 9 times, and dried 18 times, which is a long production time and a complicated process.

It has a cool and pleasant, light and soft, water quickly dry, not easy to wrinkle, rich body bones, durable wear, bacteria, insect repellent, health care skin role, especially suitable for summer wear.

In 2008, the dyeing and finishing technique of fragrant cloud gauze was included in the national intangible cultural heritage. In 2020, Gambiered Canton gauze was included in the second batch of protection list of Sino-European geographical indications.
